Airborne Electromagnetics to Improve Landslide Knowledge in Tropical Volcanic Environments

چکیده
Caribbean areas are particular volcanic territories in tropical environments. These juxtapose several landslide-prone with different predisposing factors (poorly consolidated materials, superimposition of healthy materials on highly weathered high heterogeneity thicknesses, etc.). In these environments, where rapid development slopes and land use changes noticeable, it is necessary to better characterize unstable phenomena that cause damage infrastructure people. This characterization has be carried out the as well initiation conditions requires complementary investigations. study, focusing La Martinique, proposes a landslide analysis methodology combines new information about acquired by an airborne electromagnetics survey physical-based model. Once data interpreted compared field observations previous data, geological model produced introduced into physical test instability scenarios. The results show geophysical investigations (i) improve knowledge internal structure landslides surficial formations, (ii) specify spatial limits sensitive landslides, (iii) give understanding conditions, particularly hydrogeological triggering conditions.

Submarine landslide triggered by volcanic eruption recorded by in situ
NW Rota-1 is a submarine volcano in the Mariana volcanic arc that is notable as the site where underwater explosive eruptions were fi rst witnessed in A.D. 2004. After years of continuous low-level eruptive activity, a major landslide occurred at NW Rota-1 in August 2009, triggered by an unusually large eruption that produced 10 times the acoustic energy of the background level of activity. An ...
متن کاملDynamic winter climate response to large tropical volcanic eruptions
[1] We have analyzed the mean climate response pattern following large tropical volcanic eruptions back to the beginning of the 17th century using a combination of proxybased reconstructions and modern instrumental records of cold-season surface air temperature. Warm anomalies occur throughout northern Eurasia, while cool anomalies cover northern Africa and the Middle East, extending all the wa...
متن کاملIn vitro evaluation of pulmonary deposition of airborne volcanic ash
There has been an increasing interest in the effects of volcanic eruption on the environment, climate, and health following two recent volcanic eruptions in Iceland. Although health issues are mainly focused on subjects living close to the eruption due to the high concentration of airborne ash and gasses in close vicinity to the volcanoes, the ash may also reach high altitude and get distribute...
متن کاملA Geomorphological Model for Landslide Detection Using Airborne Lidar Data
This study analyzes multi-temporal LiDAR data of high accuracy and high resolution by installing a geomorphometric model for extracting landslides. First, two sets of LiDAR data were acquired for before and after a heavy rainfall event. The landslides which took place from 2005 to 2009 were classified automatically by satellite images, and subsequently the landslides were interpreted and edited...
متن کاملPredicting the susceptibility of landslide occurrence in order to manage landslide risk in Bar Neyshabur watershed
Background and objective: Landslide susceptibility zoning using different methods is one of the landslide management strategies. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the landslides susceptibility in the Bar watershed in Khorasan Razavi province using the support vector machine (SVM) algorithm. Method: First, the landslide layer of the area was corrected through field visits and Google Earth...
